In brief
- Ademi says the bar exam is still in Macedonian.
- The latest proposal envisages a version with 84% in Albanian, but with no deadline.
- The students do not rule out returning to the streets in Skopje.
Albanian students in North Macedonia may take to the streets of Skopje again, as their demand that all exams be held in the Albanian language has still not been met, student representative Mevlan Ademi warned.
According to Ademi, the bar exam will continue to be held in Macedonian. He said the current proposal does not guarantee that the exam will be conducted 100% in Albanian, nor does it set any deadline, while no concrete steps have been taken for the other exams. He also claimed that the Constitution and the laws in force have been circumvented.
From 50/50 to 84%
Ademi welcomed the change in approach: from the position that the exam could only be in Macedonian, to Prime Minister Mickoski's 50/50 proposal, and now to a version with 84% in Albanian. The direction is the right one, he said, but the road remains difficult. He added that earlier statements by Deputy Prime Ministers Fetai and Sali have been set aside.
Ademi called on all Albanian representatives to work together toward a final solution, stressing that the students “have no time to lose on political games.”
Earlier in the day, Ademi thanked Albania's ambassador in Skopje, Denion Meidani, for his support on the issue of the bar exam in Albanian, describing the progress as an achievement but not a complete solution.
