Editorial standards
ANN exists to give readers verified news. These are the rules we follow, and what you can expect when we get something wrong.
Last updated October 22, 2026
Principles
- Accuracy before speed. We verify before we publish. When a fact isn't confirmed, we say so clearly.
- Fairness. We give a voice to the people involved and keep news clearly separate from opinion.
- Independence. No advertiser, party or owner decides what we write.
- Transparency. We name our sources whenever we can and note when an article has been updated.
- Respect. We respect privacy, the dignity of victims and the presumption of innocence.
We follow Albania's Code of Ethics for Journalists (Albanian Media Institute, 2025 edition).
Sources
We prefer named sources and documents. We use anonymous sources only when the information is in the public interest and can't be obtained otherwise. At least one editor knows their identity, and we protect it.
Opinion
Pieces in the Opinion section reflect the views of their authors and are clearly labeled as such.
Use of artificial intelligence
We use artificial intelligence tools for supporting work: translations, summaries, headline suggestions, transcriptions and first-pass comment moderation. Every article is read and approved by an editor before it's published, and the newsroom takes full responsibility for it.
We don't publish AI-generated images as news photos. When we use AI-generated illustrations, we label them clearly.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it quickly and openly:
- Small mistakes (spelling, a misspelled name) are fixed without a note.
- Factual errors are fixed and a note is added at the end of the article, with the date and what changed.
- When an error changes the substance of the story, we say so at the top of the article.
- We don't delete articles to hide mistakes. We remove them only for legal or safety reasons, and we say so.
To report a mistake, write to [Corrections email] with the article's link and what you think is wrong.
Right of reply
Anyone mentioned in an article who believes they have been portrayed inaccurately has the right to ask for a reply or clarification. We review every request and, when it's justified, publish the reply or correction without delay.
Complaints
Write to [Corrections email]. We reply within 7 working days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Albanian Media Council, the media self-regulation body in Albania.
Advertising and sponsored content
Sponsored content, when we have it, is clearly labeled “Sponsored” and kept separate from the news. Advertisers have no influence on our journalism.
