Privacy policy

You can read ANN without an account, without ads that follow you and without tracking cookies. This page explains what data we collect when you comment, subscribe or write to us, why we collect it, and what rights you have.

Last updated October 22, 2026

Who is responsible

The data controller is [Publisher's legal name], registered at [Registered address] ([Tax / registration number]). For any privacy question, write to [Privacy email].

This policy covers albaniannewsnetwork.com, in Albanian and in English.

When you read

We don't ask you for an account, and we don't use ads, third-party analytics or tracking pixels.

Like any website, our server receives your IP address and browser type in order to send you the page. We don't store your IP address. To limit spam and attacks we turn it into a one-way code (a keyed hash), kept only in the server's memory for a few minutes to a few hours.

We count article views for the “Most read” list. We store only the total number of views per article per day, with no data about you.

Our hosting provider ([Hosting provider]) may keep technical logs for security for a short period.

When you comment

You don't need an account to comment and we don't ask for your email. When you post a comment we store the name you choose (it can be a pseudonym), the text, the time and the article. Your name and comment are shown publicly.

To protect comments from spam and abuse we also store a hash of your IP address (not the IP itself), a fingerprint of the text to spot repeated comments, and an automatic risk score. Likes and reports are stored with the same hash, so each person counts once.

Comments are moderated automatically and by the newsroom, under our comment guidelines. When bot protection is on, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're human by processing some technical signals from your browser.

When you subscribe to the briefing

We store your email address, the language you choose and the date you subscribed, only to send you the Morning Briefing and news about it. Emails are sent through [Email delivery provider].

You can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every email or by writing to [Privacy email].

When you write to us

We keep messages, tips and correction requests in order to reply and to document our editorial work. Sources who ask for anonymity are protected under our editorial standards.

What is stored in your browser

A few preferences are stored only on your device: saved articles, your name for comments and your likes. They aren't sent to us and you can delete them at any time. The full list is on cookies and browser storage.

Legal basis

We process data under Albania's Law No. 124/2024 “On Personal Data Protection” and, for readers in the European Union, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Your consent for the briefing subscription. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • Our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure, preventing spam, moderating comments and counting views anonymously.
  • Legal obligations, when the law requires us to keep or disclose data.

Personal data in our journalism

Our articles may contain personal data about people who are part of the news. This is processed for journalistic purposes, in the public interest and for freedom of expression, as the law allows.

If you believe an article contains inaccurate or unnecessary data about you, write to [Corrections email]. Every request is reviewed under our corrections policy.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. We only use providers that help us run the site, under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Website hosting: [Hosting provider]
  • Database: Neon, with servers in Frankfurt (EU)
  • Photo storage and bot protection: Cloudflare
  • Email delivery: [Email delivery provider]

Some of these providers may process data outside Albania. In those cases we apply the safeguards the law requires, such as standard data protection clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Comments: for as long as the article is online, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Moderation data (the IP hash, the text fingerprint): [Retention period, e.g. 12 months].
  • Subscription: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only a note so we don't email you again.
  • Messages: for as long as needed for our editorial work and legal obligations.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a readable format, and to withdraw your consent. Write to [Privacy email]: we reply within 30 days.

Since we don't store IP addresses and have no accounts, to find a comment we may ask you for the article, the name and the time you posted it.

If you think we haven't respected your rights, you can complain to Albania's Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection (idp.al). Readers in the EU can also contact the authority in their own country.

Children

Comments and the newsletter are not for children under 16. If you learn that a child has given us their data, write to us and we'll delete it.

Changes

When we change this policy we update the date above. We announce important changes on the site and, by email, to subscribers.
