In brief
- Marc Márquez won the Malaysian Grand Prix, followed by Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta.
- Bezzecchi lost places in the final laps, passed by Ai Ogura and Enea Bastianini.
- Márquez is 44 points ahead of Martín and 67 ahead of Bezzecchi.
Marc Márquez claimed his seventh win of the MotoGP season at Sepang on Sunday and moved even closer to the world title. The Malaysian Grand Prix ended with an all-Spanish podium: behind him came his brother, Álex Márquez, and Pedro Acosta.
Bezzecchi's difficult finish
The race had its drama in the final laps. According to Top Channel, Marco Bezzecchi lost positions just as the race was ending: he was first passed by Japan's Ai Ogura and then, after running off the track on the last lap, by Enea Bastianini.
The title math
With this win, Márquez leads the standings by 44 points over Jorge Martín and 67 over Bezzecchi. The next race is the Qatar Grand Prix, where the Spanish rider could secure the title if he extends his lead over his two rivals further. Everything also depends on the results of Martín and Bezzecchi.
The Qatar dispute
The Qatar race itself, scheduled for next weekend, has sparked debate in the paddock. According to Top Channel, a large share of the premier-class riders would prefer not to race at Losail because of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. The organizer, MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, says it trusts the guarantees of the Qatari authorities, that it has an evacuation plan for the paddock and a financial guarantee of 100 million euros. Team managers in Sepang were told there will be no more negotiations: riders who miss the race without a strong reason face financial and sporting sanctions.
