In brief

  • Klosi was a guest on Top Channel's “Top Story” program.
  • He said choosing the leader is an internal matter for PS.
  • The secretary-general said he is confident Rama will win the 2027 and 2029 elections.

Blendi Klosi, secretary-general of the Socialist Party (PS), said Monday evening that Edi Rama remains the Socialists' choice to lead the country. Klosi spoke on Top Channel's “Top Story” program at a time when protesters in Tirana are demanding the prime minister's resignation.

Asked whether Rama is the Socialists' only option for prime minister, Klosi replied that choosing the party's leader is the responsibility of PS itself. “We choose our leader,” he said.

Klosi said he is convinced Rama will win the next two elections, in 2027 and 2029. He noted that the Socialist Party is currently in government.

The statement comes after opposition leader Sali Berisha rejected Rama's invitation to dialogue and demanded his immediate departure, while the student protests have entered their second week.
