The British Library in London is preparing one of the season's most anticipated exhibitions, devoted to the queen of crime fiction. “Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery” opens Oct. 30 and will run until June 20, 2027, marking the 50th anniversary of the British writer's death.
Manuscripts and a typewriter
According to Euronews, the exhibition brings together about 100 rare items tracing Christie's life, work and legacy. Among them are early manuscript drafts, notes from her exams and her personal typewriter. The exhibition looks at the author's childhood, the people she met and the places she traveled, which, according to the organizers, shaped the characters and ideas of her novels.
From the dispensary to the Orient Express
To immerse the public in the atmosphere of the books, the curators have built life-sized replicas of dispensaries, where Christie worked and learned about the poisons that would later appear in her plots, as well as a 1920s Orient Express carriage, recalling one of her most famous novels. Euronews describes the exhibition as a richly adorned study filled with “delicious clues.”
Agatha Christie wrote 95 books in all, including 66 detective novels and around 15 short story collections, and her works have sold more than 2 billion copies worldwide. The last book published before her death in 1976 was “Curtain: Poirot's Last Case,” in which the famous Belgian detective solves his final case.
