The National Theater of Opera, Ballet and Folk Ensemble (TKOBAP) has announced the world premiere of “Concerto Trinitas I, II, III” by composer Vasil S. Tole, a concerto for piano and orchestra. The concert will be held on the evening of Nov. 3 on the theater's stage in Tirana, according to ATSH (the Albanian Telegraphic Agency).
Xhakoviq as soloist, Krantja on the podium
The solo part has been entrusted to pianist Amir Xhakoviq, while the TKOBAP Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Ermir Krantja. Tole's work, divided into three parts as its title indicates, will be heard by an audience for the first time.
Vasil S. Tole is a composer and ethnomusicologist, one of the best-known names in Albanian contemporary music, also known for his research on folk iso-polyphony. The Latin title “Trinitas” (trinity) and the Roman numbering of its three parts point to a work built as a triptych.
Mozart and Tchaikovsky on the program
In addition to Tole's work, the evening's program includes the overture to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera “The Marriage of Figaro” and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's fantasy-overture “Romeo and Juliet,” two well-known pages of the symphonic repertoire: Mozart's opera premiered in Vienna in 1786, while Tchaikovsky wrote the first version of his overture in 1869. Pairing an Albanian premiere with well-known classics aims to bring new music closer to a wider audience.
The concert follows a turbulent period for the theater, which on Oct. 20 had postponed that week's performances because of the events in Tirana. The start time has not yet been given in the published announcement.
