In brief
- The PS parliamentary group invites students to dialogue and proposes a “Pact 2.0.”
- Balla announces a Thursday vote on the agreement with Germany on dormitories.
- The Socialists condemn attacks on police and appeal to parents.
Taulant Balla, head of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party (PS), said Tuesday that students must be heard and that the prime minister has invited them to the dialogue table. According to him, the time has come for a new pact for the university, which he called “Pact 2.0.”
Balla announced that on Thursday Parliament is expected to vote on a Germany-backed agreement to finance improvements to student dormitories. He presented this as one of the concrete steps the majority is taking on students' conditions.
Condemnation of violence
“The Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party condemns the violence,” Balla said, describing the attacks on police as a criminal offense. He claimed that most of the injured treated in hospitals are police officers and called on parents not to allow minors to take part in the protests.
Balla described the attack on a government building as unprecedented since 1997-1998 and said classes are continuing normally in all schools. He added that Parliament's agenda is busy, with laws related to the EU integration process that must be passed by the end of the month.
