Nautical tourism and the role of marinas in the Albanian economy were at the center of the Balkan Blue Economy Summit, held at the Orikum Marina as part of the “Balkans Sea Fair.”
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, said this segment can attract more investment, raise the quality of services and create jobs in coastal communities.
According to him, tourism revenue has more than doubled within three years, while overnight stays outside the summer peak have risen by about 78%. The aim now, the minister said, is for the economic benefits to be spread throughout the year.
Yachts as a source of income
Gonxhja stressed that the more yachts that dock, refuel and receive maintenance services in Albania, the more income will be generated for local businesses and economic opportunities for families.
The “Balkans Sea Fair” took place along the Vlora coast until Oct. 18, combining sailing, adventure, business and entertainment, with the aim of promoting the region's maritime and tourism potential.
