In brief
- The maximum retail price of diesel falls from 213 to 212 lek per liter.
- Gasoline cannot be sold above 181 lek a liter at retail, while wholesale diesel is capped at 200 and gasoline at 169 lek.
- Operators that do not respect the caps risk having their activity suspended.
The Transparency Board decided on Thursday on a slight cut in the price of diesel, according to Ekofin. SSH EN 590 diesel may not be sold above 212 lek per liter at filling stations, down from the previous cap of 213 lek. The new price takes effect at 3 p.m.
For gasoline, the maximum retail price was set at 181 lek per liter. The board also set caps for wholesale trade: diesel no more than 200 lek a liter and gasoline no more than 169 lek.
Special situation in the market
The decision implements the government act that declared a special situation in the hydrocarbons market, approved on Sept. 16, 2026. Since then, the Transparency Board has met regularly to set the maximum prices that both wholesalers and retailers must apply.
Operators are required to respect the caps in both wholesale and retail sales. Those who fail to do so risk having their activity suspended, according to the board's decision, while the new prices must apply at points of sale from 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Impact on consumers
For drivers, a one-lek cut per liter is small, but it comes at a time when fuel prices are set directly by the board rather than by the free market. For every 50 liters of diesel, the saving is 50 lek. The board's decision makes no mention of changes to the price of gas.
