In brief
- Selene Nelson's article lists 14 affordable European countries, with Albania appearing after Montenegro.
- According to the article, even in Dhërmi and Ksamil the number of foreign tourists remains limited compared with well-known destinations.
- Tirana is described as a convenient starting point and among the capitals where eating out costs little.
Albania ranks among Europe's most affordable holiday destinations, according to an article by journalist Selene Nelson in the British outlet Rest Less, reported on Tuesday by ATSH (the Albanian Telegraphic Agency). On the list of the 14 cheapest countries to visit, Albania appears right after Montenegro.
The Riviera, the mountains and low costs
The article recalls that Albania, isolated for most of the 20th century, long remained one of the continent's least-known countries, but is now open to visitors and tourist numbers are expected to grow. The Albanian Riviera is described as having attractive beaches and blue waters, while the author notes that even in the busiest areas, such as Dhërmi and Ksamil, international visitors remain relatively few compared with other European destinations.
For that reason, according to Rest Less, accommodation, food and transport remain relatively cheap. Inland, tourists find high mountains, historic towns with castles and traces of Greek and Roman civilizations, a variety that suits history lovers as well as fans of adventure and the sea. Tirana is presented as a good base for exploring the country and as one of the European cities where a restaurant dinner costs relatively little.
The full list
The article argues that France, Spain and Italy, although among the most visited, are not necessarily the most economical choices. After Montenegro and Albania, the list continues with Portugal, Malta, the Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Estonia.
According to the author, from Montenegro's sandy beaches to Albania's rugged mountains and clear waters, the continent offers plenty of options that can be explored even on a tight budget.
