In brief
- Rama posted footage of protesters in the courtyard of PD headquarters, captioned “University of Violence.”

- The protest began around 14:00 and escalated with stones, Molotov cocktails and fireworks.
Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday afternoon posted footage of protesters gathered in the courtyard of the Democratic Party headquarters, captioning it “‘Students’ at the University of Violence. Saturday, Oct. 24, 15:30.” According to reports, the time of filming coincides with the start of the first attacks on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard.
By putting the word “students” in quotation marks, the head of government questioned the student character of the day's protest, which PD had declared a national protest in support of the students.
“The mother of violence”
Earlier in the day, Rama had called the Democratic Party “the mother of violence” after opposition supporters, following a symbolic rally in front of the Prime Minister's Office, burned the cushions and pillows placed around the dialogue table. According to Koha Jonë, this happened around midday. In another post, Rama claimed that PD burned and destroyed the items with masked people, side by side with “ANTIFA” and other violent individuals.
The prime minister had set up the dialogue table in front of the Prime Minister's Office as an invitation to talks with students and lecturers, after the dialogue chairs had been burned and knocked over several times in previous days.
The 12th day of protests
Saturday's protest began around 14:00 in front of the Ministry of Education and quickly escalated. Protesters marched along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard toward Skanderbeg Square, where clashes broke out and stones, Molotov cocktails and fireworks were repeatedly thrown at police, who responded with tear gas and water cannons. The opposition called the rally a national protest, while PD leader Sali Berisha accused police in the evening of violence against protesters.
