Pristina will host on Oct. 23 and 24 the zero edition of the “LA RREMË” International Theater Festival, a new event that aims to turn Kosovo's capital into a meeting point between local artists and international colleagues. The festival is named after Muharrem Qena, one of the influential figures in the history of Kosovar theater, and is organized in partnership with the National Theater of Kosovo.
The official opening is set for Oct. 23 in the Red Hall of the Palace of Youth, where Mario Banushi's “Taverna Mirësia – Mario, Bella, Anastasia” will be staged.
A wordless show that has toured the world
The show, almost entirely without dialogue, invites spectators into the Banushi family's restaurant for a surreal journey through memory and grief. It has previously been presented at major festivals in Europe and North America, and will be performed twice in Pristina.
The second day opens with the master class “The Classics on the Contemporary Stage,” led by director Dino Mustafić at the National Theater. The Barabar Center will host the panel “Why Do We Still Gather? Theater on Shifting Ground,” with Darko Lukić, Doruntina Basha, Marko Bratuš and Ilina Perianova, moderated by Aurela Kadriu.
The festival closes with a concert by Ibadete Ramadani and her band at the “Ramiz Sadiku” Canteen. The event is supported by Kosovo's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Municipality of Pristina and several private sponsors.
