Dibra police have arrested three people in the act in Peshkopi, two of whom are suspected of using violence against police officers, while the third was caught with a bladed weapon. The incidents took place on Elez Isufi Boulevard, in the town center.
According to a State Police statement, the arrested men, L. B., 39, and D. B., 31, both residents of the village of Sina, are suspected of using violence against two officers on duty while they were being escorted to the police station. They were arrested by Judicial Police officers attached to the Prosecutor's Office.
A knife and a metal crowbar
On the same boulevard, crime investigation specialists at the Dibra police station also arrested 36-year-old P. D., a resident of Peshkopi. During a body search, he was found with a bladed knife and a metal crowbar, which were seized as material evidence.
The police statement does not explain why L. B. and D. B. were initially being escorted, nor whether the incidents are connected to each other. The procedural files for all three arrested men have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.
Security measure pending
Violently resisting a police officer and carrying bladed weapons without a permit are criminal offenses punishable by imprisonment under the Criminal Code. The arrests come at a time when the State Police are under increased pressure across the country because of the week of protests.
The arrested men will be brought before a court to set a security measure, where prosecutors will submit their request according to the circumstances of each case. Until a final ruling, all three are presumed innocent.
Dibra police have not said whether the two officers who were hit were injured or needed medical assistance. The statement was released on Tuesday, the same day the State Police also reported the results of operations in Tirana, Shkodra and Durrës.
