- Konjufca: The leaders of the liberation war will have the state’s full support on appeal.
- Çitaku and Hoxhaj of the PDK called the support a state duty that goes beyond party differences.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca on Wednesday chaired the founding meeting of the Working Group for drafting and harmonizing the State Strategy on the appeal proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
The work plan
According to Konjufca, the meeting discussed the strategy’s main directions, named the groups responsible for drafting it and set the overall work plan. “Our commitment is that the leaders of our liberation war have the full support of the state of Kosovo in their battle on appeal,” he said, adding that institutions will defend the truth of the war internationally and oppose any attempt to distort it.
“The KLA unites us all beyond our differences, because its liberation war stands at the foundations of our freedom and our state,” Konjufca said, adding that all institutions and political forces bear responsibility in this process.
The opposition at the table
Vlora Çitaku, acting leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and a member of the group, said the participation of the Albanian parliamentary parties shows a shared awareness of the issue’s importance and that the work follows the spirit of Parliament’s Sept. 28 declaration. She called the first-instance verdict unjust and said work is continuing in parallel on a law aimed at strengthening the protection of the liberation fighters’ rights. “Not on any day and not at any moment will we leave the liberation fighters alone!” Çitaku wrote.
The PDK’s representative in the group, Enver Hoxhaj, said support for the KLA leaders is a state responsibility and a duty to Kosovo’s history, pledging to work to turn that duty into concrete action in the appeal process.
