In brief
- Economy Minister Delina Ibrahimaj said the Youth Guarantee will have a fund of nearly 60 million euros.
- The government aims to broker jobs for about 10,000 young people up to age 29 during 2027.
- According to her, 3,000 rental homes with a 50% subsidy and 4,000 with subsidized loans are expected by the end of November.
The Youth Guarantee program, piloted this year, will be implemented nationwide in 2027 and has been included in next year's draft budget. Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj said this in an interview with Euronews Albania, reported by ATSH.
A job or a course within a few months
According to the minister, the program has a total fund of nearly 60 million euros and aims to broker jobs for about 10,000 young people during 2027. The scheme, designed in cooperation with the European Union, offers young people up to age 29 a job or a vocational training opportunity.
Ibrahimaj said students are precisely the group most sought after by the labor market and that she seeks a dialogue with them to explain existing programs, about which, she said, disinformation is circulating. She compared the demands of this week's protests with those of 2018, saying that back then students had concrete proposals, while now the demands are very broad.
Affordable housing
The minister also spoke about changes to housing legislation, which extend support beyond social housing to affordable homes for the middle class, students, young professionals and young couples.
According to her, once the legal framework is approved, by the end of November or early December 3,000 rental homes subsidized at 50%, 2,000 homes purchased with interest-free loans and another 2,000 with loans at a subsidized 3% interest rate will be made available.
The Youth Guarantee is a model applied for years in European Union countries, where the state commits to offering young people who are out of work or out of education a job, internship or training offer within a set period.
