In brief
- Pacolli appeared at the special prosecutors’ office in the morning and left after about seven hours.
- He said he has filed a complaint about the “injustices” related to Vlora Airport.
- On Facebook, he wrote of unlawful interference in the ownership structure and disregard for court rulings.
Businessman Behgjet Pacolli spent about seven hours on Monday at the offices of SPAK, the Special Anti-Corruption Structure. He had been summoned to be questioned as a person with knowledge of the Vlora Airport case, over which he himself had filed a complaint, according to Top Channel.
“I have only filed a criminal complaint about the injustices that have been committed so far regarding Vlora airport,” Pacolli told reporters as he left. He was also asked whether prosecutors had questioned him about any interest of Belinda Balluku, who was notified of charges by SPAK last week, but he gave no details.
Lawyer: Case also in arbitration
His lawyer, Eduart Halimi, said Pacolli was questioned as a person with knowledge of what “has happened and is happening” at Vlora Airport. Because of the intensive investigation and because the matter is also before the Court of Arbitration, he said, the defense cannot comment further.
“No one is above the law”
Later, Pacolli wrote on Facebook that he presented prosecutors with detailed facts, documents and circumstances about what he called unlawful interference in the ownership structure, disregard for court rulings and violation of private property. “I have not lost hope that justice is being done in Albania,” he wrote, adding that he will continue to cooperate fully with SPAK. “No one is above the law. Private property and court rulings must be respected,” he concluded.
