In brief

- He is suspected of killing Albanian citizen S. D. in 2020 together with two other people.
- Interpol Tirana and Interpol Athens are finalizing the extradition procedures.
A 26-year-old born in Korça, internationally wanted for murder, has been arrested in Thessaloniki, Greece, for extradition to Albania, the State Police announced on Sunday, according to ATSH.
The arrested man has been identified by the initials R. T. The Korça court had ordered him held in pretrial detention back in 2021 on a charge of “intentional homicide,” committed in collaboration.
The 2020 killing
According to police, R. T. is suspected of killing Albanian citizen S. D. in Thessaloniki in 2020, together with two other people. They first beat the victim and then struck him with bladed weapons. The complaint was filed by the victim’s family in Korça, where criminal proceedings against the suspect were then opened.
The names of the two other suspected accomplices were not released, and police gave no details on whether they have been arrested.
Extradition
The arrest followed coordination between Albanian and Greek authorities. Interpol Tirana is working with Interpol Athens to complete the extradition procedures so that the suspect can be handed over to Albania to stand trial.
As in any extradition from a European Union country, the suspect’s handover requires a decision by the Greek judicial authorities. Until then, R. T. remains in custody in Greece. Police did not say when the procedure is expected to be completed or give the exact circumstances of his arrest in Thessaloniki.
