In brief
- The Foreign Ministry congratulated the Student List on its win in Serbia’s parliamentary election and citizens on their turnout.
- The Albanian Coalition of the Presheva Valley, according to preliminary projections, is set for two seats and is in the race for a third.
- President Begaj said the result must translate into equality and an end to discrimination.
Albania officially reacted on Monday to Sunday’s parliamentary election in Serbia. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs congratulated the Student List on what it called a “convincing victory” and Serbia’s citizens on the high turnout.
According to the ministry, developments in Serbia show the importance of civic engagement and the free vote. It noted that civic energy that finds representation in institutions is an opportunity for change, but also a responsibility for those who win voters’ trust.
Two seats in sight
Albanian diplomacy addressed special congratulations to the Albanian Coalition and the Albanians of the Presheva Valley. According to preliminary projections cited by the ministry, two parliamentary seats are in sight, while the race for a third remains open. A CeSID and Ipsos projection, with 56% of the ballots processed, gave the coalition two seats. The ministry said this representation should serve Albanians’ rights and equal treatment.
President Bajram Begaj called the result “a victory of unity, dignity and political representation.” “Now this result must turn into more rights, equality and an end to discrimination,” he wrote on social media.
A message on Kosovo
The ministry stressed that in this new political chapter, normalizing relations with Kosovo remains an essential responsibility for Belgrade. Tirana expects constructive engagement in the EU-mediated dialogue, implementation of the agreements reached and concrete steps toward stable neighborly relations. The ministry said Albania is ready to work with the new institutions on the basis of mutual respect.
