In brief

- Füllkrug, on as a substitute against his former club, equalized with a penalty and a goal three minutes later.

Borussia Dortmund reached the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal with a 3-2 win over Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park, decided by a Marcel Sabitzer free kick in the 93rd minute. The Austrian curled the ball in from the edge of the box for his first goal since January, which was also Dortmund's first direct free-kick goal since November 2024.
The hosts started strongly. Serhou Guirassy scored from close range in the 6th minute after a Julian Ryerson assist, and Carney Chukwuemeka doubled the lead in the 17th after Jobe Bellingham knocked the ball down to him. Earlier, a Maximilian Beier goal had been ruled out for offside.
Füllkrug against his former club
Werder came back through substitute Niclas Füllkrug. He converted a penalty in the 65th minute after a foul on Mick Schmetgens and three minutes later equalized by nutmegging Waldemar Anton. According to beIN Sports, the striker now has 11 goals in all competitions this season and has scored in seven straight matches, equaling Werder's Bundesliga-era record held by Rudi Völler.
In Tuesday's other games, Köln routed Union Berlin 5-0, RB Leipzig won 2-1 at Rot-Weiss Essen and Eintracht Frankfurt beat Hamburger SV 3-1 in Hamburg. Augsburg won 4-2 at Großaspach, Bochum beat Mainz 2-0, Mönchengladbach won 2-0 against Karlsruher and Darmstadt triumphed 2-0 at Elversberg. The second round concludes on Wednesday.
