Egnatia and Teuta meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Egnatia Arena in Rrogozhina, in the match that closes Week 9 of the Abissnet Superiore. The clash between Albania's champions and the league leaders is billed as a key test in the title race, on the same day as the capital derby between Tirana and Dinamo.
Dede plays it down
Egnatia coach Nevil Dede tried to take the pressure off the match. “For me, it is an ordinary league match,” he said, describing the meeting between first and second place mainly as a media story. Dede praised Teuta's organization and support this season and said the Durrës side “deserve first place.”
Before the match, Egnatia posted a photo of three of their leaders: goalkeeper Mario Dajsinani, captain Albano Aleksi and midfielder Fernando Medeiros. The champions are coming off a congested run of games after their Conference League campaign.
Tetova returns to Rrogozhina
For Teuta coach Edlir Tetova, the match carries special weight, as he returns to the stadium where he led Egnatia in their most successful years. Teuta come into the game after a 0-0 draw with Elbasani and, according to Newsport, have no more room to drop points if they want to stay on top.
The match comes at the end of a tense week in the Superiore, in which Vora and Elbasani won on Wednesday, while Skënderbeu drew 2-2 with Laçi in Korça. The result in Rrogozhina will decide who ends Week 9 at the top of the table.
