In brief
- Napoli led 2-0 and 3-2, but Leonardo Balerdi equalized for Roma in the 89th minute.
- Lazio beat Parma 2-1 with a goal from Kenneth Taylor and an own goal by Diego Carlos.
- Julián Álvarez scored the only goal against Deportivo, Atlético's sixth straight La Liga win.
Napoli and Roma served up the wildest match of Serie A's Round 8 on Saturday, a 3-3 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. André-Frank Zambo Anguissa put Napoli ahead in the 28th minute, and Scott McTominay doubled the lead right after the break, in the 48th. Roma responded through Matías Soulé in the 69th minute and Santiago Castro in the 74th. McTominay seemed to have settled it with his second goal in the 83rd minute, but Leonardo Balerdi equalized for the Giallorossi in the 89th.
In the evening Lazio beat Parma 2-1 at the Olimpico. After a goalless first half, Kenneth Taylor scored in the 50th minute, and eight minutes later Diego Carlos deflected the ball into his own net. Simone Lontani pulled one back for Parma in stoppage time. Lazio, who shared first place with Inter on 19 points, thus climb to 22 and go top alone, pending the Nerazzurri's match against Fiorentina on Sunday.
Julián “makes peace” with the Metropolitano
In Spain, Atlético Madrid beat Deportivo La Coruña 1-0. Julián Álvarez scored two minutes after the restart from an Alejandro Grimaldo pass, his first league goal since May. Jan Oblak protected the win late on, clearing a Kevin effort off the line. It was Atlético's sixth straight La Liga win, leaving them two points behind Barcelona ahead of Sunday's Clásico.
Ahead of the clash with Real, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick called the Clásico “the best match our sport can offer” and, asked about refereeing, said: “I trust the referees. We are all part of the game,” adding that he would not provide “material for newspaper headlines.”
