In brief

  • According to Iranian journalist Erfan Hoseiny, Jasir Asani will be called up again by Albania.
  • Asani was left out of the September and October squads; a return would be his first match under Maran.
  • Albania have struggled on the right wing: none of the players used in four matches was a natural right winger.

Jasir Asani could return to the Albanian national team for the November call-up. According to reports from Iran, relayed on Monday by BalkanWeb, journalist Erfan Hoseiny writes that the Esteghlal winger will again be called up by Albania coach Maran. Esteghlal is one of Tehran's best-known clubs, where Asani has so far scored four league goals this season.

The news has not been officially confirmed by the Albanian Football Federation and for now remains a media report.

After two absences

Asani was not called up for the September and October squads and reacted after being left out. If the call-up is confirmed, the return would come for the Nations League matches in November and would be his first appearance under Maran.

The Albanian winger is in form in Iran: on Friday he scored in Esteghlal's 1-1 draw with Chadormalu, his fourth league goal this season.

The right-wing problem

According to BalkanWeb, Albania have had difficulties on the right side of attack, as none of the players used in the last four matches plays naturally in that position. The only listed right winger, Sabah Kerjota, watched every match from the stands. Asani's return would give Maran one more option in that area of the pitch. Kerjota himself was on the pitch at the weekend, providing the assist for the first goal in Hearts' 2-0 win over Motherwell in Scotland.
