In brief
- Mbappé scored twice, while Raphinha briefly equalized in the 61st minute from a Pedri assist.
- Barcelona had won their first nine league games; this is their second straight defeat after the loss to PSG.
- After 10 rounds, Barcelona have 27 points, Atlético 25 and Real 24.
Real Madrid won 2-1 at Camp Nou and ended Barcelona's perfect run in La Liga. The hero of the night was Kylian Mbappé, who scored both goals for José Mourinho's side in the season's first Clásico.
Real went ahead in the 41st minute when Gerard Martín failed to clear the ball and Mbappé made no mistake. Barcelona equalized in the 61st minute: Pedri played the ball into the box and Raphinha struck with his left foot past Lunin.
A late winner
Just as the game seemed headed for a draw, Jude Bellingham played Eduardo Camavinga through, and he ran into the box and laid the ball off to Mbappé for the winner in the closing minutes. According to Al Jazeera, the brace takes the Frenchman to 14 goals this season and 100 for Real since his move from PSG in 2024.
The title race tightens
Hansi Flick's Barcelona had won their first nine league games and with a win would have bettered Real's 1968-69 record for the best start in La Liga. It is the Catalans' second straight defeat, after their loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
After 10 rounds, Barcelona lead with 27 points, Atlético Madrid are second with 25 and Real third with 24. For Real it is a fifth straight win in all competitions. Mourinho said after the match that his team is playing “to win the championship.” In the overall head-to-head record, Real lead with 107 wins to Barcelona's 106.
