In brief
- Kurti and Odile Renaud-Basso met in Sveti Stefan, on the sidelines of the Berlin Process Summit.
- Kurti said partnerships in the new term will follow energy and water security, defense, transport and infrastructure.
- Since Kosovo joined in 2012, the EBRD has provided about 967 million euros for 151 projects.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti met European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso on the sidelines of the Berlin Process Summit in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro, the Prime Minister's Office announced on Friday. The meeting took place a day earlier.
Continuing the London talks
According to the statement, the meeting continued talks the two had held in April in London and focused on strengthening cooperation and on infrastructure and economic projects in Kosovo. Kurti told Renaud-Basso that partnerships in the new government term will be built on the country's strategic priorities: “energy and water security, defense, sustainable transport and infrastructure.”
The prime minister described the EBRD as an important partner on Kosovo's European path.
Nearly a billion euros in 14 years
Since Kosovo joined the EBRD in 2012, the bank has provided about 967 million euros in financial support for 151 projects in both the public and private sectors, according to figures published by the Prime Minister's Office. The statement does not mention specific new projects or amounts agreed during the meeting.
The EBRD is one of the largest international lenders in the Western Balkans, with investments in energy, transport, water, banking and private companies. For Kosovo, where demand for energy and water grows every year and road and rail infrastructure requires major investment, financing from international institutions remains a key source alongside the budget and EU funds. The meeting took place in the same days that Kurti, at the Berlin Process Summit, called for Kosovo to be granted EU candidate status.
