Korça police arrested a teacher at the city's public kindergarten No. 6 on suspicion of using violence against a 4-year-old child. The arrest followed a complaint by the child's mother, and the teacher, with the initials Xh.Z., is accused of “mistreatment of minors,” police said.
According to the mother's account, published by Shqiptarja.com, the boy had complained several days earlier that the teacher had hit him. She had noticed a red mark on his neck, and the child told her he had been shut in a storeroom and was afraid to go back to kindergarten.
Confrontation in the kindergarten yard
The mother said that when she went to pick up her son around 13:30, she saw the teacher holding him by the hand in the yard and scolding him, calling him a liar. According to her, during the argument with staff another teacher threw her phone and hit her, while staff initially told her the child was lying. She went straight to the police station with her son.
After the complaint, officers of the Korça Police Station carried out investigative actions, including checking security cameras, and arrested the teacher. The case file was referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the Korça First Instance Court for further action.
Call for kindergarten inspections
According to the mother, the kindergarten's director later called her to apologize and admitted she was right. The woman said she will pursue the case in court and asked the Education Directorate to inspect kindergartens, adding that her son spoke in the presence of a psychologist. “What about the children who can't yet tell what happens to them?” she asked. The teacher is presumed innocent until a final court ruling.
