Tirana police arrested in the act a 51-year-old man, identified by the initials D.K., suspected of supplying fireworks to masked people who committed acts of violence during the protests in the capital.
The “Fireworks” operation
The arrest was carried out by the Section for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes, as part of the third phase of an operation code-named “Fireworks.” During a check of the warehouse he managed on Çamëria Street, police found 1,853 fireworks, for which the 51-year-old had neither a sales license nor documents proving their purchase.
At a home on Zela Street, officers also seized 47 more packs of fireworks, which police said were intended for unlawful use.
Link to the Oct. 24 protest
According to police, the 51-year-old is suspected of selling pyrotechnics to masked people who committed acts of violence during the rally of Oct. 24, 2026. The operation aims to stop protesters being supplied with banned items used in attacks on police and on public and private property.
The case files have been referred to prosecutors for further action. During recent days of protest, police have reported the use of fireworks and Molotov cocktails against officers and government buildings in Tirana.
It is not the first case of its kind. On Oct. 19, police had arrested a 23-year-old suspected of selling slingshots and drones to protesters, whose warehouse held more than 450 items. Police have warned they will keep up checks on traders selling pyrotechnics without a license.
