A 29-year-old Albanian, internationally wanted as a member of a structured criminal group, has been extradited from Germany to Albania. According to police, the young man with the initials A. Gj., born and living in Mat, was handed over from Frankfurt as part of a phase of the “The Wanted” operation.
The charges
As early as May 2024, the Special Court of First Instance against Corruption and Organized Crime had ordered him held in custody. He is accused of three criminal offenses: providing conditions and material means to commit murder, in the special form of collaboration within a structured criminal group; participation in a structured criminal group; and committing crimes as part of a criminal organization and structured criminal group.
Because of these charges, the 29-year-old had been placed on an international wanted list while he was abroad.
The arrest in Germany
According to the statement, he was caught in Germany thanks to cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Wiesbaden. After the extradition procedures, Interpol Tirana specialists, working with their foreign counterparts, escorted him to Albania. The statement gives no details on the next procedural steps, which are expected to continue in court.
The State Police presented the extradition as another completed phase of the “The Wanted” operation, carried out in cooperation with Interpol Tirana. The custody order is a security measure, not a verdict: the 29-year-old is presumed innocent until a court decides otherwise.
