Two people wanted by Albanian justice were arrested in Corfu, Greece, the State Police said on Wednesday, according to ATSH (the Albanian Telegraphic Agency). The arrests were carried out by Greek authorities thanks to cooperation between the Interpol Directorate in Tirana and Interpol Athens.
The May 7 killing
The first is L.T., 37, suspected of intentional murder, manufacturing and possessing weapons, explosives and ammunition without a license, and threats, committed in complicity. According to police, on May 7, 2026, at a venue owned by 66-year-old R.I., after a fight involving hard objects among several people, he shot the man with a pistol and killed him.
The second, I.Ç., 40, was wanted for failing to report a crime, threats and destruction of property. According to police, he was among those involved in the fight that preceded the shooting.
Toward extradition
The Saranda Court of First Instance had ordered pretrial detention for both suspects. Following their provisional arrest in Greece, Interpol Tirana is finalizing extradition procedures with its Greek counterparts so they can be returned to Albania to face justice.
Police said the investigation into the incident continues and that other people suspected of being involved in the fight are also being sought. Official sources have not disclosed the exact location of the killing. The Greek island of Corfu lies opposite the coast of Saranda and is linked to it by regular ferry lines.
